Creative Director

Job Description

The Creative Director sets the standard for the creative strategy, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability of projects under his or her direction. Projects range from integrated brand and visual identity programs to individual communications and campaigns in both digital and physical media.


Essential Responsibilities

CREATIVE DIRECTION

  • Set the highest standards for strategic thinking, creativity, and craftsmanship.
  • Work with the project team to develop communications that support the success of our clients.
  • Conduct or commission research, lead brainstorming sessions and lead the strategy that drives creative development.

  • CLIENT RELATIONS

  • Nurture and maintain long-term client relationships and develop return business.
  • Establish and maintain contact with each client to assure that all creative work is aligned with business and communication objectives and that the client is satisfied with the strategic and creative quality and project management during the entire project.
  • Provide access and insight into the design process, keeping the client involved and fostering a sense of collaboration and ownership of the end product.
  • Lead formal client presentations and meetings and respond constructively to client feedback.

  • BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE

  • Become an integral part of our clients' success by developing a working understanding of their business by keeping current with industry-specific news.

  • BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • Work with the client and project manager to establish and monitor the project budget to assure project profitability.
  • Identify budget issues before they become problems, and, if necessary, participate in billing and collection processes.

  • TIME MANAGEMENT

  • Work with the client, project manager to establish and monitor the project schedule to assure on-time delivery.

  • NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  • Work with the VP for New Business Development to present the studio portfolio and to develop project strategy and fees. Develop new business opportunities and proposals with existing clients.
  • Nurture a network of referrals from existing clients.

  • STAFF SUPERVISION

  • Supervise the performance and direct the activities of the creative staff and conduct annual performance reviews. Identify ways to motivate and inspire the creative team to realize and develop the full potential of their projects.
  • Conduct interviews of candidates for open positions.

  • CONTINUOUS INTERNAL IMPROVEMENT

  • Conceive and implement strategic and tactical initiatives that build company morale, improve design standards and enhance internal processes.

  • PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT

  • Join and contribute to professional organizations and actively network with leaders in the design community.

  • STAY CURRENT

  • Follow and share current creative trends and technologies in digital media, communications and branding.
  • Overall, it is important for the Creative Director to continue to raise the bar of creative excellence within the company, constantly searching for new processes to develop smart and effective creative solutions for our clients.

    Essential Skills and Qualifications

    • BFA / MFA in graphic design or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum 10 years experience in graphic design and/or advertising design, including at least five years of experience in branding and interactive media design.
    • Stellar skills in design, art direction, strategy, project management.
    • At least 4 years experience leading project teams.
    • Outstanding portfolio and a record of award-winning design.
